How to Clean with Our Essential Oils

Living a low tox lifestyle can be overwhelming sometimes but I am here to help ease the burden. Over the years I have come up with tons of clever and affordable ways to clean with non toxic products and I am excited to share some of them with you here. I have decided to combine them all into one blog post since much of the basis are the same with small adjustments to each.

Cleaning your carpets

First I want to start off with one of my new favorite ways to clean my carpet. I purchased the "Hoover Dual Spin Pet Plus Carpet Cleaner Machine, Upright Shampooer, FH54050V, White" from Amazon which came with a cleaner they recommend. Of course I wasn't going to be using that so I came up with a recipe of my own.

One of the most important things to remember is that distilled water is the best water to clean with. It is pure H20 and will leave whatever you are cleaning free of streaks or residue. With that base I decided to test out a recipe with ingredients I always use to clean everything - white vinegar, our purification blend and baking soda.

What you'll need:

1. Distilled Water (Any grocery store carries the gallons)
2. Organic Distilled White Vinegar (I get from Whole Foods or Sprouts)
3. Branch Basics Oxygen Boost (Can use Baking Soda instead)
4. BH Botanicals Purification Blend or Thieves Blend

Recipe:

1. Add 1 cup distilled white vinegar to carpet cleaning canister.
2. Add 10 drops Purification blend or Thieves blend.
3. Add 1 scoop BB Oxygen Boost or 1/2 cup baking soda.
4. Top off with Distilled Water to Max Fill line.

Heres why:

Our Purification blend is an extremely powerful anti bacterial, anti microbial, anti fungal, anti viral essential oil blend and it smells incredible. It was originally formulated to remove a strong fragrance from an apartment a tenant had left behind. The scent was so strong from febreeze, cleaning products, plug ins and whatever else they may have used. Within 2 days of diffusing this blend around the clock the scent had been completely eliminated. This will help to remove smells, fragrances, stains, etc and leave your carpet refreshed and clean!

If you prefer to use our Thieves blend which is known to be a powerful anti microbial, anti bacterial and anti viral blend this can be used as well. It will leave your carpet clean, fresh and help to remove bacteria that may be deep in the fabric.

Baking Soda is a great cleanser because it helps to remove stains and freshen fabrics. I like to use Branch Basics Oxygen Boost because it is made with baking soda and additionally sodium precarbonate for an even deeper clean but baking soda will work just fine if you don't have it or don't want to purchase it.

Distilled white vinegar combined with baking soda is even more powerful to removing stains and odors because it is an acid on the pH scale while baking soda is more alkaline. The combination of the two makes a great cleaner because they help to remove dirt and grime. White vinegar helps to break down mineral deposits that may be built up in your carpet.

This recipe can be tweaked to your own needs. If you have a much smaller hand held machine I would much recommend cutting the recipe in half as to not overpower with vinegar and leave your carpet with residue or unpleasant smells.
